WRITING AND REFERENCING
During your IB years, you will write many assignments, from homework assignments to final essays that need to be submitted to the IB for assessment. One of the most significant writing tasks that a candidate will undertake is the writing of the Extended Essay. It is important that you present all your work, not just your Extended Essay, in a formal, polished manner, following internationally-accepted guidelines for doing so. In addition, always demonstrate respect for the work and ideas of others by citing and referencing them scrupulously. Please also see the library section of this site for some important resources regarding academic honesty.
At ISG, we follow MLA (Modern Language Association) guidelines for writing and referencing assignments.
Please refer to the resources on this page for specific help and guidance regarding not only how to write your papers, but importantly how to cite and reference them effectively.
In addition, our school is a subscriber to Turnitin, a web-based software suite currently used by over 10,000 institutions in over 120 countries. One of the main components of Turnitin is OriginalityCheck. We implement this service to help Secondary School students with writing as a process and to provide them with a valuable tool to help ensure the authenticity of their work. Please check with your subject teachers if you have any questions about the implementation of this service and see below for useful resources.
